Privacy Policy

1 Summary (The Short Version)

Your financial data stays on your device. We never see, receive, store, or transmit your transactions, balances, budgets, or categories.
No account, no login, no cloud sync. Monio works 100% offline.
We use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand how the App is used in aggregate and to fix crashes. These tools collect limited technical and usage data — never your financial data.
We do not sell your data to anyone, ever.

2 Data We Do NOT Collect

We want to be explicit about what stays on your device and never reaches us:

All of the above is stored locally on your device using the operating system's standard app sandbox. If you uninstall Monio, this data is deleted along with the App — unless you previously exported a backup file.

3 Data We Do Collect (via Firebase)

Monio uses two Google Firebase services to help us improve the App and fix bugs. Neither service ever receives your financial data.

3.1 Firebase Analytics

Firebase Analytics collects anonymous, aggregated data about how the App is used. This helps us understand which features are popular, where users encounter difficulties, and how to make Monio better.

Anonymous app instance ID (a random identifier tied to the install, not to you personally)
Device model and manufacturer
Operating system and version (iOS / Android)
App version
Country / region (derived from IP address — the IP itself is not stored by us)
Language and locale settings
Screen views and feature-usage events (e.g., "user opened Stats screen", "user added an expense" — without the expense content)
Session duration and frequency of use

⚠️ What we do NOT send to Firebase Analytics

The amount, description, category, or any content of your transactions; your account names or balances; or any personally identifying information.

3.2 Firebase Crashlytics

Firebase Crashlytics collects information when the App crashes, so we can diagnose and fix bugs quickly.

Crash stack trace (technical details of what went wrong in the code)
Device model, OS version, and app version
Anonymous device identifier
State of the App at the time of crash (e.g., which screen was open) — excluding your financial data
Non-fatal errors logged for diagnostic purposes

Crashlytics does not capture the content of your transactions, accounts, or any other financial information.

3.3 Google's Role

Firebase is provided by Google. When you use Monio, the analytics and crash data described above is transmitted to and processed by Google on our behalf. Google's privacy practices for Firebase are described at:

4 How to Opt Out of Analytics & Crash Reporting

You can disable Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics at any time in just three steps:

Open Monio and go to Settings
Scroll to the Privacy section
Toggle off "Share anonymous usage data" and "Share crash reports"

Once disabled, no further analytics or crash data will be sent from your device. Data already sent cannot be retroactively deleted from Google's systems, but you may request deletion by contacting us at ehlb.dev@gmail.com.

5 Advertising

✅ Monio is ad-free No Ads

Monio currently displays no advertisements and contains no advertising SDKs. If we ever introduce ads in a future version, we will update this Privacy Policy and notify users in-app before any ad tracking begins.

6 In-App Purchases (Future)

Monio is currently free with no in-app purchases. When we add optional premium features in a future version:

Payment will be processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store). We never see or store your payment details.
We will receive only an anonymous purchase token used to unlock premium features on your device.
This Privacy Policy will be updated before any purchase flow goes live.

7 Children's Privacy

Monio is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect any data from children.

If you believe a child has used the App and their data may have been collected via Firebase, please contact us at ehlb.dev@gmail.com and we will assist in deleting any related analytics data promptly.

8 Data Retention

Your financial data is retained on your device for as long as you keep the App installed. It is deleted when you uninstall Monio, unless you previously exported a backup file — which remains entirely under your control.
Firebase Analytics data is retained by Google for 14 months after collection, then automatically deleted.
Firebase Crashlytics data is retained by Google for 90 days for non-fatal events. Crash reports may be retained indefinitely unless we delete them manually.

9 Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding data we collect via Firebase:

Opt-Out Disable analytics and crash reporting at any time in Settings → Privacy (see Section 4).

🇪🇺 EU & UK Users (GDPR)

The legal basis for our processing of Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics data is legitimate interest (improving the App and fixing bugs). You have the right to object to this processing at any time. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

🇺🇸 California Users (CCPA / CPRA)

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your personal information with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising.

🌍 Other Jurisdictions

If your local law grants you additional rights, we will honor them. Contact us at ehlb.dev@gmail.com to exercise any right.

10 International Data Transfers

Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics data is processed by Google on servers located in the United States and potentially other countries. By using Monio, you acknowledge that anonymous analytics data may be transferred outside your country of residence.

Google maintains appropriate safeguards for such transfers, including Standard Contractual Clauses as required under GDPR.

11 Security

Your financial data is stored on your device within the operating system's standard app sandbox. We strongly recommend enabling your device's lock screen (PIN, biometric, or passcode) for an additional layer of protection.
Firebase data is transmitted to Google over encrypted HTTPS connections.
No system is 100% secure, but we take all reasonable measures to protect the data we do handle.

12 Third-Party Services

Monio uses the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy governing its use of data.

Purpose: Aggregate, anonymous usage analytics to improve the App.

🐛 Google Firebase Crashlytics

Purpose: Crash and error reporting to diagnose and fix bugs.

💱 Exchange Rate Providers

Purpose: Multi-currency conversion within the App.

Data sent: Anonymous API calls containing no personal data whatsoever — only the currency codes being converted.

13 Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will:

Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document
Post the previous version on our website for reference

Continued use of Monio after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
